Parents, caregivers and professionals involved with special educational
needs, for example, classroom educators, learning support specialists,
social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, optometrists,
speech therapists, audiologists, physiotherapists, general practitioners
and students in fields related to learning support.
The affairs of SAALED are governed by a National Board elected by its
members. It is financed by subscriptions from members, donations
and fund-raising initiatives.
The money is used to fund the running of the Association, annual conferences,
publications and bursaries.
The organization is managed by a national secretariat
and through the local branch committees in areas where the membership
is active. Individual members are spread across South Africa and
beyond its borders.
All memberships are registered through the National
Office but members will be part of their closest branch of SAALED.

meetings and workshops to which members have free access or pay
reduced fees;
- An informative Newsletter, published on a regular basis and featuring
practical ideas and articles of professional interest, is sent to
individual and corporate members;
- Bursaries for study in the field of special educational needs
are awarded to selected candidates;
- Opportunities for learning and networking at annual and national
and/or regional conferences, at which members pay reduced fees.
Members also have opportunities for organizing meetings of special
interest or need through their local branches.
Individual Members : R250,00 per person per year
Student Member: R120,00 per person per year (Student number compulsory)
School Membership: R990,00 per school (5 Members – 1 member free)
